Abstract : Excessive salt consumption has been shown to increase blood pressure and increase the prevalence of hypertension. Recommendations for the use of sodium (Na) should be no more than 2 grams/day (equivalent to 5-6 grams of NaCl per day or 1 teaspoon of table salt) (inaSH, 2021). The incidence of hypertension, especially in coastal communities, is caused by diet and lack of physical activity. Meanwhile, in the Baubau City area in 2020, there will be 4,822 hypertension sufferers (56.5%). Whereas in 2021 there will be an increase of 6,359 cases. Cases of people with hypertension in Baubau City currently rank first among the 10 highest diseases after Common Cold. The study aimed to determine the risk of salt consumption on the incidence of hypertension in communities in the coastal area of Baubau City. The method that the researcher uses is an analytic observational study with a Case-Control study design. Case-Control is a research method by comparing the case group (people who suffer from hypertension) and the control group (people who do not suffer from hypertension). Sampling was done by purposive method sampling. Data were obtained directly from respondents who were selected as research samples through interviews using questionnaires and measuring blood pressure. The results of this study indicate that there is a risk of salt consumption with the incidence of hypertension in people in the coastal area of Baubau City. The results of the study indicate that there is a risk of salt consumption with the incidence of hypertension in people in the coastal area of Baubau City. It is hoped that the Baubau City Health Office will direct each Community Health Center to provide education regarding restrictions on consuming salted or salted food.
