Journal ID : AMJ-12-11-2022-10775; Author : Amira Abd El-Rhman, Huda E. Megahd,
Abstract : Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a significant biomedical issue stimulated by many signaling pathways by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). This study looked at how fennel and khellah seed extracts (FSE&KSE) ameliorate the nephrosis that LPS-induced in experimental rats. Forty healthy adult male Westar albino rats weighing 200±20g, were used. Ten rats were left as control group G1, while other 30 rats were received a single intraperitoneal injection by LPS (12mg/kg b. wt.) and then divided into 3 groups 10 rats for each. G2 represented the positive control, however the remaining two groups treated orally by FSE and KSE for 4 weeks. The injection of LPS increased KIM-1 and NFAT-5 genes expression, inflammatory biomarkers, nephrotic proteinuria moreover histological and structural changes in kidney tissue, while administration of FSE and KSE resulted in a significant (P˂0.05) improvement in biochemical parameters and ameliorate structural changes in kidney tissue and down regulate of KIM-1and NFAT-5 genes expression related to protect kidney from LPS injury.

Pandalungan Culture Study on Dietary Patterns and Physical Activity related to the risk of Diabetes and or Obesity
Journal ID : AMJ-11-11-2022-10773; Author : Ancah Caesarina Novi Marchianti, Dwita Aryadina Rachmawati, Elly Nurus Sakinah,
Abstract : Diabetes and or obesity have a genetic predisposition, but it is unlikely that genes can change drastically over a short time, thus, the incidence of increased incidence is more related to lifestyle factors than genetic factors. A combination of diet restriction and exercise is effective in preventing the onset and severity of diabetes and or obesity. Pandalungan community is unique because of acculturation from a traditional to a modern lifestyle, therefore, we were interested to investigate dietary patterns and physical activity (PA) as one of the lifestyle factors that may cause obesity and diabetes in this community. We analysed 1200 research subjects of healthy, obese, and or diabetic adults in the Pandalungan area, East Java, Indonesia. The research results are able to show or aid to filter which acculturation is good and which one should be rejected related to the risk of diabetes and or obesity in the Pandalungan community. Pandalungan culture had shown similar results on the variety of PA in adults with the most active domain being the household domain. Statistical analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between PA and blood glucose level (p>0.05) but when comparing dietary patterns, it showed that type of food and eating schedule related significantly. The household domain became a major PA probably because the Pandalungan culture comes with very solid family ties. Pandalungan people need to pay attention to their preference for food and their schedule of eating.

Journal ID : AMJ-11-11-2022-10771; Author : Yulia Primitasari, Puspita Hapsari Sitorasmi, Yuniar Sarah Ningtiyas, Indri Wahyuni,
Abstract : Corneal collagen crosslinking is a procedure for making bonds that connect polymer chains. Corneal collagen crosslinking aims to slow or stop the progression of keratoconus by using photooxidative therapy to increase stromal rigidity. This research is aimed to evaluate the effect of transglutaminase-induced corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) on central corneal thickness and keratocyte cell density in vivo. Twenty-eight white New Zealand rabbits were divided into four groups: the transglutaminase-induced CXL group, the epithelial-off CXL group, the transepithelial CXL group, and the control group. The ocular surface was treated with a 1 U/mL microbial transglutaminase solution, and both the epithelial-off and transepithelial groups were exposed to clinical ultraviolet A-riboflavin (UVA/RF). The efficacy of each group was evaluated on the 14th day after the procedures. Central corneal thickness and keratocyte cell density were evaluated with histopathology examination. Transglutaminase-induced CXL group exhibited the highest mean central corneal thickness (341.10 ± 58.50) in comparison to the UVA/RF epithelial-off group (289.42 ± 38.19), the UVA/RF transepithelial group (319.15 ± 16.81) and control group (318.40 ± 63.97). Still, there was no significant difference, with a p-value of 0.279. Transglutaminase-induced CXL group had the highest mean of keratocyte cell density (43.26 ± 10.65) compared to UVA/RF epithelial-off (29.99 ± 4.79), UVA/RF transepithelial group (42.03 ± 6.55), and control group (34.36 ± 6.76). There was a significant difference between the group, with a p-value of 0.008. It implied that the effect of transglutaminase-induced CXL could be comparable to UVA/RF CXL in altering central cornea thickness and keratocyte cell density.

Abstract : The leading causes of death in both developed and developing countries are cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and cancer. The importance of doxorubicin, as a potent antitumor antibiotic and induce cardiocytotoxicity was studied. It is commonly used against ovarian, breast, lung, uterine and cervical cancers, soft tissue and primary bone sarcomas. Omega-3 fatty acids are regarded as immune-nutrients and are commonly utilized in the nutritional therapy of cancer patients. According to our knowledge there is no study linked the effects of Omega-3 on the immune markers level among DOX-induce cardiotoxicity, Therefore, goals of this study was to assess the potential protective effects of Omega-3 fatty acids on cardiotoxicity caused by DOX by measuring T(cTn- T) and some immune biomarkers include CCL23,CCL27,MIF in rats model using Eliza technique. The rats were divided into five equal groups. Group 1 got no treatment, group 2 received doxorubicin single toxic dose 20mg/kg IP, and groups 3,4,5 received doxorubicin toxic dose 20mg/kg IP following pretreatment with Omg-3 at different doses (100m, 200, 400 g/kg /day p.o) for 4 weeks, respectively. At the end of the experiment, blood samples were collected from the heart for measurement of plasma levels of cardiac troponin T (cTn- T) and serum levels of immune-biomarker (CCL23,CCL27,MIF) using the ELIZA technique, and the apical side of the heart was fixed in 10% formalin for histological examination. In comparison to the control group, pretreated Omg-3 groups with doses showed a highly significant reduction in the mean of the concentration of markers include cTn-T,CCL23,CCL27, MIF with p <0.001, while they showed significantly elevated mean in DOX alone group (P≤0.01). The histopathology results showed that groups pretreated with Omg-3 reduced the myocytes necrosis and granulation tissues with mild signs of sarcoplasmic vacuolization and inflammation regarding to the doses dependent effect. The results of the present study revealed that Omg-3 have been shown to decrease doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity and showed a valuable cardioprotection effect through suppression of some immune-biomarkers and change the histopathological features of cardiomyocytes.

HIV – Kidney-associated disease: Clinical Review and update
Journal ID : AMJ-10-11-2022-10766; Author : Elmukhtar M. Habas, Kalifa Farfar, Ala E. Habas, Nadia Arrayees, Gamal Alfitori, Eshrak E. Habas, Hafedh Ghazouani, Amnna Rayani, Kaled M. Alarbi, Aisha AL Dab, Mohamed Bagi, Abdel-Naser Elzouki,
Abstract : Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) is a highly adaptive and fast-evolving virus associated with renal damage, affecting kidney structures directly and indirectly. A cytopathic impact and immune complexes mediated mechanisms were suggested. Furthermore, nephrotoxic drugs, including antiviral therapy, and coinfections, have a role in kidney damage. Additionally, HIV patients live longer, increasing the chance of comorbid chronic diseases that increase kidney damage risk. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) progresses and might cause end-stage renal disease (ESRD), especially in HIV. HIV-AN prediction is possible by apolipoprotein-1 (APOL-1) polymorphism detection, high viral load, and proteinuria. Kidney transplantation is possible in HIV-AN if the infection is controlled. The exact mechanism(s) of HIV-AN pathogenesis is not established. Hence, an updated clinical review article about the HIV-AN pathogenesis and management was planned. EMBASE, Google Scholar, Google, Scopus, and PubMed sites were searched for pathogenesis, diagnosis markers, and predictors of HIV-AN. We used keywords and phrases such as HIV-related kidney diseases, HIV-associated nephropathy, HIV-AN, interstitial, tubular, and glomerular diseases in HIV, gene abnormalities and HIV-AN, Kidney disease treatment or management in HIV, and CKD pathogenesis in HIV.
