Journal ID : AMJ-01-11-2022-10696; Author : Gehan M. Morsy, Huda M. Ismail Abo El-Fadl, Huda E Megahd, Bakinam Ali Mohamed,
Abstract : Nanoemulsions (NEs), lipid nanocarriers, are emerging drug delivery systems that can carry drugs, increase bioavailability, and control their release. Although the pharmacological properties of NEs are widely studied, knowledge about their toxicity is scarce. Thus, the study aims to evaluate the possible toxic effects of two oral doses (250 & 500 mg/kg) of thymol nanoemulsion (T-NE) on the reproductive organs of male and female rats. The study included six animal groups; two male and female control groups, two male and female groups consumed T-NE low dose, and the last consumed T-NE high dose. Some biological parameters, sperm characteristics, biochemical parameters, and DNA fragmentation were measured along with histological examination. The results revealed the potential sensitivity of female reproductive organs to T-NE either at low or high doses. While male reproductive systems are only affected at the high dose significantly. A significant alteration was found in feed intake, body weight, relative organs weight, sperm count, and motility. Also, there was a marked elevation in the pro-oxidants malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl products (PCs) along with a reduction in superoxide dismutase (SOD) are found. Besides toxic effects are found as altered ATP production, elevated DNA fragmentation, and altered reproductive hormonal balance. Microscopic features of the testis and ovaries are significantly affected by T-NE oral intake. In conclusion, the tested doses of T-NE showed a marked toxic effect on the reproductive organs of rats especially female rats. Which can shed light on testing the safety of consuming T-NE.

Journal ID : AMJ-01-11-2022-10691; Author : Fithria Aldy, Yudhi Pratama,
Abstract : Nigella sativa (NS), as a traditional medical plant, is widely used in Middle Eastern countries and Indonesia. Nigella sativa extract exhibits a wide range of characteristics that are beneficial to human health, including anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, antifungal, antiviral, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the major active compound of NS extract, which has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in both in vitro and in vivo model studies. Considering the results of existing studies, the researchers were interested in conducting a study on the effect of administration of Nigella Sativa Extract (ENS) on the growth of Streptococcus pneumoniae colonies in Wistar rats’ model of bacterial conjunctivitis. This study is an analytical study with a true experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design approach, using a wistar rat model of bacterial conjunctivitis as the object of research. The population of this study were all male Wistar rats aged 4 to 9 weeks. This research was conducted in the laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine, University of North Sumatra and took place for approximately 3 months, from May 2022 to July 2022. The study sample was 25 male rats divided into 5 groups. One way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference in the number of Streptococcus pneumoniae colonies based on the treatment groups (p<0.001). The Posthoc further test showed a significant difference in the number of Streptococcus pneumoniae between the groups of rats given 20% Habbatus Sauda (p=0.034) and ofloxacin (p=0.026). Nigella sativa extract demonstrated antibacterial activity against Streptococcus pneumonia. This suggests that Nigella sativa carries great potential as an effective antimicrobial agent for medicinal purposes, especially in bacterial conjunctivitis.

Effect of Acupressure at PC6 Point on Serum IL-6 Levels and PUQE Score in Pregnant Women with Hyperemesis Gravidarum
Journal ID : AMJ-01-11-2022-10690; Author : Made Tangkas, Made Jawi, Made Wiryana, Nyoman Gde Budiana,
Abstract : Hyperemesis gravidarum is a severe persistent nausea and vomiting disorder during pregnancy that can lead to many problems. Several predisposing factors play a role in the pathophysiology of hyperemesis gravidarum but there is no definite relationship between them that has been proven until now including pro-inflammatory factors. Acupressure is thought to suppress the effects of proinflammatory cytokines that trigger the production of hCG, which is one of the triggering factors for hyperemesis gravidarum. Pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum who are treated according to the standard care for hyperemesis gravidarum are given acupressure stimulation during the first 48 hours of the treatment. Serum interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels and PUQE scores were measured at the start and end of stimulation. Serum IL-6 levels were significantly decreased in patients stimulated at the PC6 point compared to the Sham point (p < 0.05). This shows that acupressure stimulation at the PC6 point reduces IL-6 levels in pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum. Likewise, the decrease in PUQE scores was significantly different in patients stimulated at the PC6 point compared to the Sham point (p<0.05). Decrease in IL-6 had a strong correlation with the PUQE score (p = 0.016) which means that the decrease in IL-6 levels was followed by a decrease in the PUQE score. Acupressure stimulation at PC6 point can reduce IL-6 levels to accelerate the improvement of nausea and vomiting complaints in hyperemesis gravidarum.

Journal ID : AMJ-31-10-2022-10688; Author : Vinesh Dahiya, Neeru Vasudeva, Sunil Sharma, Ashok Kumar,
Abstract : The study was aimed at investigating the weight changes in hypothyroid obese mice upon the administration of Momordica Charantia Aqueous Extract and to study the corresponding histopathological changes in the liver tissues. Hypothyroidism is marked by increased levels of thyroid stimulating hormone and decreased levels of T3 and T4. Hypothyroidism reduces the basal metabolic rate leading to slowed down metabolism, which in turn leads to weight gain resulting in hypothyroid obesity. Alteration in mice body weights were recorded after administering them Methimazole (0.025% hypothyroid inducing drug) for 21 days, then for the next 21 days, group 3 was administered standard drug (Thyroxine), and group 4 was administered Momordica Charantia Aqueous Extract and rest both the groups were administered normal food and water. Mice were weighed at the starting of the experiment and reweighed every 7th day and water and food intake was observed. At the end of the experiment the weight changes on final day were analyzed by comparing with the initial day and these were recorded to be significant and p*˂0.01 in the test mice. Mice livers were dissected out at the end of the experiment and histopathological studies were done on them to record their hypothyroid obesity linked changes. The weight gain in the hypothyroid mice was reversed significantly and the histological studies revealed the appearance of fatty vacuoles throughout the liver in the disease group; it was observed that Momordica Charantia Aqueous Extract was able to reverse these changes successfully to a great extent.
